Garfield Governing body

Keith Carrano – Chair of Governors

I have been a school Governor for over twenty years and have been Chair of Governors for Garfield Primary since 2014. I am a local Leader of governance for Enfield schools and I am currently also Chair of Governors for Enfield County School, Trustee for Enfield Learning Trust and Vice Chair of Governors for Highlands School. Most of my career in senior management has been in Risk and Compliance working for PwC. After twenty years’ service, I have now retired allowing me more time to support schools in Enfield.

Chris Hyland – Co-opted Governor – Vice Chair

I am a co-opted Governor, vice chair of governors, and chair of the Finance and Resources Committee. I am also the co-vice chair of a secondary school in Enfield, Chace Community School. I have been a Governor since 2014. I have seen Garfield into the nicest school building in the Borough. I am very proud of the excellent teaching and leadership in this school and am very happy to service on the Governing Board.

Daxa Panchal – Co-opted Governor

I am co–opted Governor at Garfield. I joined Garfield in 2001 as an Admin Officer, then Office Manager, and now in my current role as School Business Manager. Prior to joining Garfield my previous roles were in Computer programming and then Finance. I have been part of the Premises and Finance & Staffing since I became a Governor, and have played an active role to help shape our new school.

My experience spans education and healthcare, and I have worked in various capacities, including interim Head of the School of Business and Management. Before working in Higher Education, I worked in clinical research, healthcare, and social care management. My research interests are in the following areas: curriculum development, healthcare leadership, work-based learning, and public health.

Max Massey – Co-opted Governor

I am a Co-opted Governor at Garfield Primary school and have been since spring 2023. This is my first experience of being a School Governor, but it continues to prove itself as more rewarding and enjoyable as the time goes on. I am a construction management professional and have been for the past 9 years.

I form part of the Finance & Resources and Premises Committees at Garfield Primary School and look forward to offering my time and dedication where necessary, to such a great school.

Elizabeth Clery – Co-opted Governor

I have been a co-opted governor at Garfield since spring 2023. I am a retired teacher, having spent my career in primary education (EY and KS1) and then Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEN/D) across the whole age range. I have a special interest in literacy, particularly reading, and volunteer in the school to support this area.

I was previously a governor in my children’s secondary school.

Marianna Gkaidou – Parent Governor

As a parent of two children who are currently enrolled at Garfield School, I am deeply invested in their education and well-being. I have been a store manager for over 10 years, and I possess a range of valuable skills that can be transferred to a parent governor role. Here I wanted to express my gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a parent governor at our school. I am thrilled to be able to contribute my knowledge, skills, and experiences to support the school in providing the best possible learning environment for all our students.

Bulent Asim – Staff Governor

I am a Staff Governor and have been a dedicated member of the team at Garfield Primary School since 2015. I initially joined Garfield as the IT technician and, following the successful transition into our new school building, now serve as the ICT Network Manager.

Beena Shah – Parent Governor

As a mother of two children, with one currently attending Garfield and the second set to join in September, and as the spouse of a former alumnus, my personal connection to the school is deeply rooted. Professionally, I bring over a decade of management consulting experience in higher education and the public sector, specialising in large scale transformation and process improvement. I am keen to contribute to Garfield’s governance and excited to collaborate with fellow governors, parents and staff to enhance the educational experience for all students.

Sebastian Bowen – Parent Governor

I am a father of two children who have attended Garfield Primary School. My youngest is currently in KS1 and my eldest, who left in the summer of 2019, is now getting ready to complete his GCSE’s at Friern Barnet school.

The things that attracted me to the school was the organisation, discipline, fun and commitment to the curriculum. The diversity within the school was inspiring and its dedication to making children understand that are differences are our strengths and not our weaknesses was commendable.

I have been involved within two sectors of occupation throughout my life, bouncing between administration for various public sectors and the world of media and television production. I believe I have acquired many skills that will cross over well into my governor position, and I will be able to assist in enhancing the learning experience for everybody at Garfield School.

Elections

Elections for Parent-Governors are held when a vacancy occurs. All parents of children at Garfield may stand for election and all may vote for Parent-Governors when elections are held.

Minutes of all Governors’ meetings are available at school.
